I've gotta say, that after hearing everyone's tracks on here, you lot are ultra talented. Being a complete noob at music production after a huge break from it, and trying to learn Ableton, it's taken me about a week just to get a snare sound that I think sounds half decent !

If I ever get to create a finished track it'll probably still end up sounding wack - but all this advice is top notch. Still not sure I'll ever, ever be able to get the level of clarity and un-mudiness in a mixdown that you lot seem to achieve, but godammit I'll give it a go !

I agree. It wouldn't matter if it was called 'Electro House' - but defining house music with unsyncopated beats as simply 'Electro' is wrong....not morally, but technically speaking.

The same happened with 'Garage' music. Originally it was old skool soulful house - 'Let No Man Put Asunder' being a prime example of the genre. Then what happened ? All of a sudden, Garage was the description for wack unmelodious crap that kids got wasted to in Ayia Napa !

I can see it lj, and wicked Kashif tune - as is the artist.

I like it ! Would've taken it to another level if they'd added a nice funk bassline to it, but regardless I like the chopping work.

How bizarre - I never knew that until now, so had to slow it down to find out. That's some serious crosstalk going on .

Sounds like he has got portamento on, pitch bending and modulation. Wicked bass sounds over old skool drum sounds. Great little vid that.

That looks like a laugh. It may not get used much, but it might be a break from the old DS/PSP on flights !

The Kraftwerk/ Timbaland one sits ok, but the first one just kills the original Whitney tune. It's supposed to be an uplifting experience, yet against the monotonous drone of that one sample at the same pitch it has turned 'I Wanna Dance With Somebody' into something dreary, depressing, dark, and so far removed from what the lyrics are trying to convey that it becomes irrelevant.

It's a shame, as the loop they've nicked from Cookie Crew's 'I got to Keep On' is a killer. I just don't like the end result.

Not a fan of any of these personally. Even if there isn't any nasty key clashes, the melodies don't sit right with each other, and some of them don't even sound that well synced.

So a mashup is taking 2 perfectly great tunes, and combining them to create a dull and lifeless recording that doesn't sound natural ?

I quite liked that 'Got a Girl' track mate.

That Dub FX vid shows some serious talent - taking it back to basics sometimes yields amazing results ! Not a bad beatboxer either !

Maybe they considered the M1 as more of a workstation than a standalone synth ? Classic bit of kit nonetheless !

They were bang on sticking the DX7 in there though, but I agree a Juno should be in there.
