Love that tune. The Jedi Knights remix was absolutely awesome, too.

+1 for nord micro modular. great value for money if you want a vocoder and it can be used for a lot more besides. not analog tho, but still sounds great.
Hey, Sorry if this has been noticed before but Paul Blackfords label 'Militant Science' has changed into a free netlabel so if you like a bit of fast DnB style electro you owe it to yourself to get downloadin'.
Groovy, but pretty damn expensive for what it does. (no doubt worth it if you actually NEED one tho)
Something else that came out recently that's another interesting alternative to vocoder, talkbox or autotune is this : http://www.soniccharge.com/bitspeek
Alright Aitch-ski, hope yer doing good yourself. Ah yeah I know what you mean about the cowbell. Can all be tweaked if you open the cr8000 up and start replacing resistors with pots tho Love all the old roland boxes, they all have their own character...I have a real love for the 606 too. Beast of a little box with a great sequencer to boot and those hats have more character than most drum machines.
Mostly because I'm skint! (broke)
Also, I love the MPC workflow but Ableton Live is just that bit more flexible and jammable. I'm using Ableton controlled with a master keyboard, Akai MPD drum pads, Novation Launchpad and a Korg NanoKontrol. Its a great setup that allows me to record different parts, overdub etc all without stopping the sequencer. I can also adjust mixer settings etc on the fly too. Its just quite a bit more flexible than sequencing just on MPC.
Personally, I like the look of this but I'd have to play around with the engine to find out if I'd actually want one. Way too pricey anyway.
I reckon if the released a standalone hardware sequencer based off of the sequencer on the Tempest for 1/3 of the price, it'd sell like hotcakes tho.
Ping-pong sounding? The cr8000 is almost exactly the same as the 808 in terms of sound generation. It just lacks the ability to edit the sounds.
I have an MPC1000, fully upgraded (max ram + 80gb hd) running JJOS v2.
You are right, there's not much difference between the 2500 and the 1000. I'd go for the 1000, especially if you already have a computer (so you wont need the cd burner).
I'd really recommend getting rid of the Akai OS immediately and installing (even the free version) of JJOS. It really makes the MPC a much more powerful beast.
If you're in the UK and are looking for a 1000, I'm selling mine (once I upgrade the pads to the new ones - next week). Its in pretty much mint condition. PM me if interested.
Superb news! "This Party's Jam Packed" is one of my all-time favourites.
Wikipedia agrees :
The beat samples the drumbreak from The Honey Drippers' "Impeach the President", but rearranged in a very unexpected fashion. Daddy-O did this mistakenly when he hit the wrong keys on his sampler's keyboard, but recognized the funkiness of the resulting pattern. Rapped to a beat by Stetsasonic's Daddy-O, Milk Dee's lyrics continue to be referenced and sampled to this day
Nice, haven't heard this since the 90s, remember it fondly tho. My mate Jase still has it on vinyl
special mention to daddy-o of stetsasonic for the beat on "Top Billin" by Audio 2
Kurtis Mantronik
Michael Jonzun
Rick Rubin
Davey DMX/Davey D
reason sounds bad? never actually used it myself but a couple mates swear by it and i know Aux 88 make a lot of their music in it and their stuff always sounds good.
currently using ableton live (controlled with a novation launchpad and korg nanokontrol) as well as an mpc1000 for sequencing.
Drexciya are probably my favourites.
Holy crap, just found out about this tune yesterday - thought I'd post about it in case it'd went past some of you guys too.
Huge, bassy, sinister spacey electro track from Massive Attack with vox from Mos Def. Apparently this is from 2002 on the 'Blade 2' soundtrack. Only 300 vinyl 12s were produced, 100 for the uk market.

Killer tune.
yeah, fantastic compilation/megamix. easily one of the best electro albums ever.
