ELECTRO in the 21 century (discusion)

The more interesting Question (in my opinion) would be when do they invent something new that the industry leaves Electronic-Music behind, i`m so pissed off by all this Mainstream-shit that is floating around in the Radio-stations all day.

Call me nostalgic but i remember often the glorious days when "Electronic Music" was only played in dark basements and Music-Corporations feard the success in the Underground.

It almost seems like the Godzilla-Mega-Corporation chewed "Electronic Music" to death and spit it out afterwards,

Maybe this is already the new beginning?

I know what you mean about being over-saturated, but it's not just music. When people post a youtube link on facebook or wherever I hardly ever watch it. I just don't have the time. I think it's called getting old...

Radio stations should decide by themselves what the wanna play. Some could play all that new electro music. As dv said u can`t listen to all new tracks....just too much.
I can`t listen to this f*cking rihanna, avicii, etc (will be played 4 times a day) bullshit any more...

i think this is true, its just too much, and many stuff i have heard is not really good.
today probably everyone can produce his own music and make it to be heard by facebook, websites, youtube, itunes ect....but not back in the day..when there was no internet. when you wanted to go to the studio to produce a track and press it to vinyl, it was much more effort and more costly than just uploading a mp3 file somewhere in the internet. so my guess is that artists back in the day spent much more effort in producing 1 Song, because it should sound perfect, before it get released.
if you just go to your computer to make a song and to upload it in the internet, you have nothing to loose imo.
anyhow, not all stuff is bad, theres also some excellent stuff out as digital releases, witch i buy from time to time.

i think before the internet times, you had to meet like minded people to get infos about the music (in real life, not just in the internet!), you needed to go to the record store to buy the music. after that you had a real Record, something to hold in your hands, you was able to smell the sleeve, to watch the colorful label or picture sleeve, you could play Vocals, Instrumentals, Dubs, Acapella Versions, mix the records ect...clean them from time to time, collect them...a real hobby, you really needed to grow into it with passion. it was effort but fun. But mp3's? i dont know....its not the same.
i guess young people who like the music, start to listening to it on youtube or on facebook, they have nothing to pay for the music, there is no "mystery" about the music and the artists behind, they have all informations just by a few clicks...they just dont have the same connection to this music like we have.

Like it always only got worse over the past ~15 years regarding infrastructure & quality filters.

The way that Facebook dominates the online communication with highly selective personalised
content filters means death to any independently online organised underground scene.
Facebook couldn't care less about providing proper grounds for a small scene like ours.
Facebook users are only meant to stay as busy as possible, brainfarting and clicking on
things all day, so that this company can figure out your thoughts to place the right adds.
Welcome to the matrix.
Sadly they are very successfully playing with peoples reception, tricking average users, Electro
fans and creators alike into welcoming all that without realising how they get cut off certain
less active people and infos they otherwise would like to see.

Other than that, by now Electro has turned almost completely into a do-it-yourself thing.
At least every second fan is an artist. I guess in 10 years you won't even need any real listeners
anymore. Googlebook will simulate that too for you after it creates a new random song with two
clicks based on your personal preferences whenever you need it.

I hate to be pessimistic, but its hard to see any good in these trends.

I still think that the main problem is that "Electronic Music" in general is everywhere, turn on the Radio and see the result, every second track is a electronic Pop Track or whatever.

If music industry would leave electronic music stuff behind and all of the Mainstream Artists would play bongos instead (just an example), sooner or later every copycat would do something else than produce in is bedroom and then Electro would move back to the Underground where it belongs.

From what i see this will not happen because we have reached the zenith, what comes after electronic music?

Maybe parties where they only play tones that will make you happy or something. I don`t know.

If we go back in history and look at it from that perspective then i would say the problem will widen up over the next decades, for example if we look at Psychedelic Rock, it had its time in the late 60`s and 70`s then it moved slowly back in the Underground over the last Decades, and now?

Do you ever hear a psychedelic Rock track on the radio? No, because all the Quality music stays Underground.

In the End all we can do is wait and see what happens.

Hm... if its about electronic music in general, then thats really a different topic.
The specific "Electro" styles, new and old, that Electro Empire is about, were
always underground ...maybe apart from a few cheesy commercial peaks in ~1998.

i couldnt have put that any better myself matt,, it is indeed a controlled society ,this is only the early days too...enjoy the past and make your own future, musically anyhow.. its the only part we can still control as people who love and produce music in a niche genre,.

For me, it's similar: There is much activity on the scene and I don't have the time to listen to all of the new releases and Electro Radio Shows but I still can't get enough of this genre and will keep on searching. There are still lots of funky treasures to discover, no matter if old or new. Maybe analogue production is a quality filter somehow, but I'm grateful for digital producion because it offers space for new talents. Even people without much money and knowledge for analogue equipment get a chance to express their creativity and get listeners. For me Farcebook is just a bunch of people begging for recognition and not the right place to get information about electro or discuss it. I guess there are really not many young Electro fans, because it's hard to find the Electrofunk genre. I remember when I heared it the first time: It was the legendary "In the Mininmal Electro Set" by Anthony Rother. When I asked what genre it was they told me it was "Minimal". So i searched Minimal in the Internet and wondered why I didn't like any of this minimal house / techno I found. Still Im very confident that there is a great future for Electro. For me it is not just the 2/4 beat with a funky bassline, it is the soul and love which defines it, no matter if analogue or digital.
