The Drexciya Style

  • Who among us is more into this style of Electro rather than the straight up B-Boy style we all know and love

I have only dipped my toe into this style in the last few years but I do like it and want a headz up on other artists like Drexciya such as Ultyradyne etc

to the best of my knowledge I guess that I'm FRESH!

  • i like a lot of it... especially the early...
in the meantime it seems this style has become a subgenre of new electro
so there are many releases to be found near that style by different artists...

some of my favourite Drexciya releases:
    Aquatic Invasion: http://www.discogs.com/release/1692
    The Return Of Drexciya: http://www.discogs.com/release/1693
    ...nearly all top tunes!

also the track "Davey Jones Locker" that was only on this Box Set:
    http://www.discogs.com/release/43919

plus most tracks on the "Neptunes Lair" album
    http://www.discogs.com/release/13866

one of my Ultradyne fav tracks is "Clones" on this one:
    http://www.discogs.com/release/152890
also the E Coli EP: http://www.discogs.com/release/28551
and some tracks on other releases...

gotta check my collection... havnt heard it all in a while now.. 8)

  • U must face the power of the black wave of ladozza before you become a Drexciyan wave Jumper

    TUNE!!

to the best of my knowledge I guess that I'm FRESH!

  • Drexciya I must say is an acquired taste, one that requires a patience (in my experience) to understand in it's entirety, yet absolutely worthy of attention as a truly unique musical style.

As a relatively recent appreciator of the drexciyan musical philosophy, I feel that in recent years I have missed out on a whole genre of sound that is difficult to categorize..

    "Drexcyen Rest Principle",Drexciya,
    "Bermuda Triangle" - Abstract Thought
    "Synchronised Dimensions" - Abstract Thought
    "Scientist" - Dopplereffekt (video mix)
    "Plasiphilia" - Dopplereffekt
    "Voice Activated" - Dopplereffekt
    "Pornoactress" - Dopplereffekt
    "Sterilization - Dopplereffekt
    "Myon-Neutrino - Dopplereffekt
    "Z-Boson" - Dopplereffekt
    "Hydro Theory" - Drexciya
"Sighting in the Abyss" - Drexciya

Just to name a few of my favored...

"I need your clothes, your boots, & your synthesizer" :cylon:

  • Hello there ,

    nice discussion here ...

for me Drexciya was the beginning !
before "neptune´s lair" i don´t listen to electro music but this day changed my life.
i love this science fiction music and the tales that this music makes in my head.
definitely Drexciya create a electro subgenre.

I would to hear how sounds Drexciya in 2008.
Dopplereffekt or Arpanet ( not my cup of tea ) is sadly not Drexciya and in my opinion was James Stinson Drexciya.

follower of Drexciya for me are :

    Dynarec : http://www.discogs.com/release/241553

    Gosub : http://www.discogs.com/release/941764

    and of course
    The "marvelousness" Exaltics :
    http://www.discogs.com/release/1442166

    and many more..

  • just got the quest double album seriously dope beats
will have to get out shoplifting sdo I can afford some more tunes from Detroit's answer to Kraftwerk ;)

to the best of my knowledge I guess that I'm FRESH!

  • Drexciya to me is the superposition of old school electro, the 313 sound and a lot of underwater and spaced machinefunk. I'm really happy that James Stinson got around to produce excellent albums about love, death and life.
Don't think Drexciya is a subgenre and James was too modest to want that. He really was a part of us and that is what he wants to be. You might not have noticed but he was amongst us almost all of the time.

P.S. There used to be three wavejumpers amongst us today!

i think over the years his style has grown into a microcosmos
within the electro microcosmos. not meaning that its apart from it.
all the mystery and the dozents of pseudonyms also
made it easy for others to contribute to the whole thing
    and to expand it.

    @JP
if you havnt yet... you should also check the album
    "Electroworld" by Elecktroids (Warp Records).
one of the great early works in connection with these producers.

  • sup MAtt

yeah Elecktroids are mad nice too I first heard them on one of those Dave Clarke mixes in the early 00's and have heard a few bits off the album too. This is the side of Drexciya I'm more into I guess .....

That albuim is on my wantlist has it been repressed?

to the best of my knowledge I guess that I'm FRESH!
