USING AKAI MINIAK & ABLETON

  • I'm trying to get ableton live 8 to recognize akai miniak thru midi but unable. And does anyone know if i can put my own drum samples on the miniak. Instead of the presets. Ive not been able to find these answers in the manual. Thankyou

  • So you want to use your Miniak as a controller keyboard for VST synths in Ableton?

It's been a while since I used Ableton on a PC, but if I recall correctly, you might want to check the following:
    - make sure your midi-to-usb device is hooked up correctly (I always get confused with the input vs. output)
    - if your computer recognizes this device, it should appear in the Inputs drop-down menu of your midi track in Ableton
    - select the device as an Input, load a VST into the track
    - I think you also have to press the "record" button of the track

  • My MPK49 never did work through MIDI, i was only able to get it to come through USB; and through a direct connection, not on a hub. Perhaps the Miniak is having the same issue. Does it have a USB connection? I assume it does.

It also does not seem to allow you to load any samples or sounds into it, just allows you to use the presets that can then be modified. If you'd like to use your own samples, have you tried using something like NI's Battery sampler triggered with the Akai 25's drum pads?

I've bought a Miniak this year and hooked it up to Cubase, I've used a Midi to USB Cable, using midi in/out the back of the Miniak to the pc, also found a good VST controller from Hypersynth, using that I choose the midi in/out of the 'midi to usb' driver, working fine...
