I own a Doepfer A-100 basic system and i´m very happy with it, and i would serious recommend it to you as your first modular. The build quality and sound is very nice and Doepfer has a lot of modules you can chose from. You can start with a small and basic system and then you can add more modules when you can afford it.

Yes i´m using the Doepfer Maq 16/3 all the time. Its a beautiful machine which was designed and built in collaboration with Kraftwerk.
