We're delighted to announce that Matthew Flanagan aka DeFeKT drops his long awaited debut album "Stimulus" with accompanying 12" for Takeover Recordings.

Keith Tucker (aux88) - "hot hot HOT"

Dave Clarke - "this is great". Modular System no.7 in August chart.

Scape one - "a future classic"

    Surgeon - "I enjoyed that"

Matt has been honing his sound for a few years now, getting great reactions form anyone who's had the pleasure of hearing, and feeling, one of his live sets. Earlier this year one of his tracks appeared on a Bass Frequency Productions mix c.d. by Exzakt, aka Larry Mc Cormack, and prior to this release he put out a superb remix of Rogue Frequency's "Forgotten Secrets".

The album has a stripped down sci-fi feel to it, warmed by the use of analogue equipment and modular synthesis, ranging from the brooding downtempo bump of the title track 'Stimulus", and "Replicant's Mind", through the deep rolling machine funk of "We are Automated" and "Systolic Array", to faster paced electrobass such as "Other Machines".
The album is a thoroughly satisfying listen from start to finish for any lovers of drum machines and synthetic sounds beautifully melded, and is treated to the meticulous mastering skills of Chris Mc Cormack. A timeless piece of electro - and only the start of the recording career of DeFeKT.

DeFeKT - Stimulus EP - Takeover Recordings TAKE107

Published in september 2010, DeFeKT's stunning "Stimulus EP" still offers a timeless electro 4 tracker to satisfy fans of Anthony Rother, Boris Divider, and Silicon Scally’s early works. Featured on Exzakt's CD compilation “Electo Endeavour BFP Mix Session One” (Bass Frequency Productions 12BFPEXZAKTC), irish overlord DeFeKT aka Matthew Flanagan makes here his debut 12" on Belfast Takeover Records.

Taken from the eponymous 8 tracker album "Stimulus" released digitally on same label, limited vinyl issue "Stimulus EP" introduces the Dublin producer's vision of a refine electro sound oscillating between past with solid Detroit reminiscences and future.

Opening the A side with a heavy dose of modular synthesis over eerie strings, sharp "Replicants Mind" serves up a solid downtempo affair based upon stripped down Sci-Fi vibes straight out from Ridley Scott classic movie Blade Runner while dancefloor "We Are Automated" delivers a bubbling machinery to merge robotic voices and synthetic sounds to aggressive beats. Ace!!

On the flipside, emotive title track "Stimulus" ventures into deeper and moody landscapes, introducing a slow down electro jam with great synth parts and groovy flavors, to bring closer to Rother's repertory (“Sex With The Machines” or “Maschinenwelt” from the "Simulationszeiltalter LP").

Finally, much anticipated "Our Future" returns to the dancefloor thanks to a funky jewel made of dark analogue touches over a frantic rhythm. With support from the likes of Dexorcist, Dave Clarke, Keith Tucker (Aux 88) and Scape One, DeFeKT is definitively a talented producer to follow! Author of a tremendous "Machine Talk EP" this year under his other ESS moniker (for Electronic Speech Systems) on almighty New Flesh label from France, Matthew is on the point to release a new EP (in both vinyl and digital formats) on Takeover featuring remixes of the “Stimulus” album by AS1, ESS and Fran Hartnett.
