i am doing some thing wrong?
is posible have a 10 tracks loaded on the 128mb¿?¿?
    mpc expertes help needed!

MIDI MIDI & MIDI, at the end i dont use long samples anymore but one shot notes splitted on the keyboard, classic sampler style. All the drum is MIDI and basslines, basses, not complex pads and i remake all the vocals live by myself. Only way i found, also remember that many files can be used in mono, that saves some space.

  • Personally own a MPC1000 (Black Color.) My first experience with the MPC series was with a 2000XL fully expanded, and boy do I miss it (aside from the whole ZIP Drive bit.) I honestly miss the "step editing" feature as it was on the 2000XL. Can't really afford to dive-into the 2500 (and wasn't so impressed with the "grid edit" feature), so currently using the 1000 in conjunction with Ableton Live 7. Really great combo between the two (only wish I had the 2000XL Fully Expanded with the Multi-Card Reader, but beggars can't be choosers I suppose.)

  • Steril,
Is there any reason that you would need an MPC1000 over the MPC2000XL (besides size / portability?)

The only benefits I forsee is the actual size and the memory increase (128MB Max RAM on the 1000 vs 32MB on the 2000XL) and possibly the Card Reader with USB connectivity (if you don't already have a card reader on your particular 2000XL.) Aside from that I haven't tried loading mine with the JJ-OS's as-of yet, but would love to hear more from (Electro) producers who are using the 1000 with the JJ-OS's.

    Hope that helps mate!

    Cheers,

  • Well, my biggest gripe with the 2kXL is that i cannot sequence and then record external Synths or drummachines in one swipe with it.
    Let me explain...
Let's say I'd sequence one of my synths, and want to record it back into the MPC, at the moment I'd have to use something else (like my PC) for recording, and getting the WAV back into the MPC by switching my ZIP-disk back and forth between the PC and the MPC.

I have always felt that this was something that the 2kXL lacks, and it severely impaires my production flow.
I can live with the 32mb of Ram, and everything else, but this recording thing really itches me.

I have been thinking about getting one of the newer MPCs when i heard that they finally implemented that feature.

  • Then in your case Steril, I could see how an MPC1000 would be better for your workflow. Since I use my MPC1000 as a Slave to Ableton Live 7 (and I do NOT use any outboard gear aside from the MPC), I would not mind having the MPC2000XL again. I would gladly trade if your MPC2000XL is fully functional and close to Mint Condition (and has a card-reader) ;D (j/k, but not really)...

Hope you're able to find what works best for you...

  • I think I have one of the most rocked-down 2kXLs in the history of Akai. ;D

The glass in front of the display is cracked, the data wheel does only respond when I pull it out (something I have seen on a lot of 2kXLs), I cutted a piece of the fader away, to keep it from getting trashed when transported, and last but not least, the power switch doesn't work anymore.

I think almost everything except the LC display itself has been swapped on my unit.

And it doesn't look to good either, many scratches and stuff...

A few years of touring can do that to hardware.... :(

I don't really have any idea, how to sell this thing... Maybe I should just sell the 8 single outs seperately, and keep the MPC, it might get me more money than selling everything together *hmmm*

I have the same problem like BIB
i have some money to spend on a MPC but as i only put my hands on 60 or 3000 i dont know what exactly buy! a 2000xl second hand or 2500 brand new!
there are so much diference with both machines? sound?
The Villain talk about that 2000 was a tank but still hapy with new 2500............................can tell me your opinions, please?thanx gab!

i would suggest the 2500 or the 1000 (the newer black one, seems to have better pads) with JJ´s OS!

there's been a ton of talk that the 60 and the 3000 have more feel and soul than the newer models. i don´t really know. never got my hands on these, worked with the 2000xl though. but i stay with the 1000. small an compact, great for live usage

I'm using JJOS v2 on my black mpc1000 and its the bomb...ditch that akai os immediately! there is even a free version of JJOS which you can install right now which gives a few (essential) improvements over the akai os.
